Epoxy Repair or A Dutchman Repair?
Splicing in a piece of wood can be done quite easily (see
photo below). Using wood to replace rotten wood is clearly
the best choice. Epoxy repair products may appear to be
fast and easy but such a repair has a very short life. A
repair should last for 50 years or longer and be easy to
maintain. The only way you get a long lasting repair is
to replace decayed wood with new wood.
Use exterior wood glue. Use the organic linseed
oil glazing/putty to fill small cracks and paint this
right away with the linseed oil paint. Using the organic
boiled linseed oil
and the organic linseed oil
paint will make it simple and inexpensive to maintain
for 50 or 100 years. The savings over time is enormous.
