Wood shingles on a roof should last for hundreds of years but this below photo shows what can happen within just 8 years. The top center part of the roof is completely decayed and needs to be replaced. This is an expensive mistake and will cost the owner of this building a substantial amount of money to correct.

The first problem in this installation: Not enough air is allowed behind the wood shingles to make the wood dry between rain falls and seasonal changes. Much of this could have been prevented by using a pine tar and organic linseed oil mixture.

In Europe, we have seen examples of wooden shingled roofs that are over a hundred years old. These roofs have been maintained every 10 to 20 years with pine tar and organic linseed oil. Please use Allback's purified linseed oil to prevent mildew. Problems with wood, always comes down to the paint or wood preservatives used.
