62 New Holkham Cottage
 |
The Cottage showing 100 year old oak
bargeboards, before being treated with Raw Linseed Oil. |
 |
The bargeboards, after being nourished
with two coats of Raw Linseed Oil, are now protected from
the elements. Note the cast iron downpipe painted in “Holkham
Green” Linseed Oil Paint. |
 |
The cottage window painted with a
typical modern alkyd paint, which, after only a few years,
is flaking off, allowing water ingress which has started to
rot the wood, (note the sill is oak), and the putty is no
longer protected, has gone hard and cracked. |
 |
 |
The windows after full restoration,
having been painted with Raw Linseed Oil and three coats of
“Barley White” Linseed Oil Paint. With regular cleaning, and a
warm coat of raw linseed oil or Maintenance Oil applied when
the color becomes chalky, (usually after about seven years)
the windows should not need repainting for a further fifteen
years. |
