Fast drying Linseed Oil varnish. Le Tonkinois No. 1 has been more refined compared to the Classic Le Tonkinois (below) and has some slightly different characteristics. Probably the world's best varnish for your home or for any marine application.

This varnish does not peel or crack. It will be absorbed by the wood over time. Can be recoated after 3-5 years. Maintain the linseed oil varnish in very exposed surfaces by doing a light hand sanding and then apply a new coat.

  • It does not form a skin in the can.
  • Dry time: Apply additional coats after only 8 hours
  • Le Tonkinois No. 1 is more resistant to damage by abrasion than the Classic Le Tonkinois varnish
  • Because of its better flow, the effective thickness per layer is somewhat less compared to the Classic Tonkinois
  • It has better UV resistance than the Classic Tonkinois
  • It penetrates better in wood and it gives a higher gloss than the Classic Le Tonkinois.

  • Clean old or dirty wood if needed with Linseed Oil Soap, rinse well, and allow to dry fully. Some light hand sanding may be required to address raised grain.

Work to avoid dust or other particles getting into the can or onto the wood surface before application. Vacuum and wipe down as needed to get the smoothest finish.

    Do not shake the can.

Do not stir or thin the varnish. Use as-is straight from the can.

Apply even coats with a brush or clean cloth/pad.

Typically, dry to the touch in 8 hrs with ideal 60+ degree ambient temperatures and with good air circulation.

24 hrs between coats is recommended.

Avoid interactions with silicone – can inhibit adhesion of Linseed Oil Varnish.
